Gas Vs Electric
Are we ready for this?
Growing up in the car industry, I've seen many advancements in automotive technology from the integration of airbags to assisted driving features, but a full electric vehicle? The electric vehicle has been around since the late 1800‘s. It was originally developed in Europe, but by the early I900's it fell out of favor due to the popularity of the gas engine. So last forward almost 100 years later and the electric vehicle is back (and more than likely here to stay) and the question is: What would you choose? Now before you answer that, there arc a few things to consider:
Gas vehicles have a longer range and refueling convenience, while electric vehicles are continually expanding their range up to 500 miles on certain brands, the recharge time can take several hours to complete and the infrastructure to charge them at this time is not sustainable.
The environmental impact: It’s no secret that gas vehicles have contributed to air pollution. It's the reason catalytic converters were invented to help reduce the airborne pollutants that arc released. While the electric vehicle doesn't operate in the same way, the resources need to make an electric vehicle such as Lithium. Cobalt, Nickel, and other rare earth elements arc subject to mining out of the earth from other countries creating a whole new set of challenges and ethical choices as to how they are obtained.
I've had the opportunity to experience both types of vehicles, and I have to say, an electric vehicle offers a great experience. From the way they ride, how quiet they arc, their quick response, and other comforts as well. While they serve the same purpose of transportation, they arc portrayed very differently. An electric vehicle may not be for everyone and that's ok. But whatever you decide should be your choice. Currently, New Jersey falls under the 2022 Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) regulations. This is a mandate to transition to zero emission vehicles by 2035. which could mean the extinction of gasoline vehicles by then. Time will tell how this will shape our future, but for now. you can still decide what is right for you.
Another option is Hybrid Vehicles. This is a gas electric combined powered vehicle that has grown popular over the last decade. The battery range is much lower than a full electric vehicle, but it docs oiler experience of both power sources. Manufacturers contmuc to work with this technology in hopes to reduce the carbon footprint and maximize the range of travel. For some, cars arc a simple means of transportation. for others, it's a passion. Only you can decide what is best for you.
