You already know that you’re in the market for a Jeep, but how do you pick the right dealership? First off, when it comes to Jeeps, you need a dealership that’s certified in the Jeep world. Jeeps are different from other vehicles, especially when it comes to Wranglers. You can’t trust just anyone to know what type of Jeep that you need, what specs are worth the extra cost, or whether or not the Trail Rated badge is beneficial for you. We’ve got those answers. If you are in need of an experienced Glassboro Jeep dealer, it’s time to visit us at Spirit Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.

But before you stop in or give us a call, you might want to try and decide exactly what type of Jeep you need. Not only are there several different Jeep models out there, but there are several trim levels as well. Each trim level offers its own benefits. Some are best suited for off-roading, while others are all-terrain capable but are designed more for casual commuting. Let’s figure out what Jeep model is right for you.

What to Consider When Buying a Jeep

When you’re vehicle shopping, there are several basic things to consider. These include fuel economy, horsepower, drivetrain, color, technology, and the likes. It’s good to consider these things when buying a Jeep as well, but there are some additional layers to the Jeep buying process.

Daily Driver Versus Trail Rated

While off-roading is their brand specialty, Jeep offers a vehicle for every type of driver. Whether you’re planning to hit the trails, you need a casual commuter, or a nice mix of both, Jeep has your back. You don’t have to use a Jeep for off-roading, but these models are known for their 4x4 capabilities. This makes the Jeep a great option for poor weather conditions and rough backroads. That Trail Rated Badge makes all the difference when it comes to capability, but do you really need it?

If you’re buying a newer Jeep, you can almost guarantee that the Trail Rated badge will come with it. As of right now, the following Jeep models may include Trail Rated badges:

  • Wrangler
  • Compass
  • Cherokee
  • Grand Cherokee
  • Renegade
  • Gladiator

This covers Jeep’s entire current SUV lineup and the one truck, and yes, even the smaller Renegade model comes with a Trail Rated badge. However, here’s the catch ?? this only applies to 4x4 Jeeps. This isn’t a bad thing, though. Not everyone needs the Trail Rated badge. Unless you plan on driving in extremely dangerous weather or you off-road frequently, don’t let the Trail Badge’s absence hold you back. If you find a non-trail-rated Jeep that you like, and you need nothing more than a daily commuter, go for it!

That said, there are some awesome perks to Trail Rated Jeeps. These benefits include the following:

  • Enhanced Traction
  • Excellent Water Fording
  • High Ground Clearance
  • Articulation (control and contact)
  • Flexible Maneuverability

Keep in mind that the specific ratings vary according to the Jeep model. You’ll get more ground clearance with a Wrangler Rubicon than you will with any other Jeep model. That said, each Jeep model offers sufficient enough ground clearance, traction, articulation, water fording, and maneuverability ratings to be considered pleasant and capable off-road.

To Mod or Not to Mod?

When you cross over into Wrangler territory, you have to decide what you need your Jeep to come with and what you’re fine with upgrading later on. Put simply, what are your must-have modifications? Make sure to know what you want now, what you don’t want to pay for later, and vice versa.

Are side-steps a necessary item? Don’t let your dealer sell you short, then. Make sure side steps are standard on the model that you pick. Similarly, do you want a hardtop or a soft-top Wrangler? While you can always change this or upgrade it later, this absolutely makes a huge difference in your buying price. Hardtops are more expensive, while soft tops often lower your initial cost. That said, it can be a pain to purchase a hard top later on, so don’t just settle for the soft-top model. Ask your dealer to work with you to find the perfect Wrangler model for you, right off the floor.

Oftentimes, the Jeep mods that come later on include lift kits, light bars, underglow kits, larger wheels, and towing winches, to name just a few popular add-ons. There are several popular modifications out there that you can budget for and add on slowly but surely after your purchase. Just make sure you get those must-haves covered before you leave the showroom.
